HOW A MATCH GOES

  • Game modes. Press Start on the title screen to open the menu. Singles is one on one. Tag Team is two on two: stand in your corner near your partner and taunt to tag him in. Tag in a healthy partner while your man is hurting for a HOT TAG. Partners on the apron break up pins, and heel partners take cheap shots when the ref looks away. Career Mode is a full storyline chasing the MNM World Championship, with choices that make you a babyface or a heel. It saves your progress on this device.
  • Player or CPU. On the select screen, press up or down to set each side to Player or CPU. Press Taunt there to set the CPU to Easy, Normal or Hard (it remembers your choice). Set both to CPU to sit back and watch a simulated match. The losing wrestler fights harder, so expect comebacks and near-falls.
  • Heels and babyfaces. Babyfaces get cheered, heels get booed and pelted with trash. Heels fight dirty: when the ref is distracted (watch for the orange warning), a low kick becomes a low blow that doubles him over. Babyfaces get one comeback per match: taunt while under 35% health to get fired up, with extra momentum and harder hits.
  • Momentum. Landing offense, taunting and pulling off reversals fills the bar under your health. Past the halfway line, your signature is ready. Fill it and you go SPECIAL for 30 seconds.
  • Signature. With the bar past halfway, grab him and press Special (right stick or H) to hit your signature. It costs half the bar.
  • Finisher. While SPECIAL, taunt once to arm it, then grab him and press Special. Or climb the ropes while he's down and press Special for your top-rope finisher.
  • Reversals. LB reverses grapples, RB reverses strikes. Time it right as he goes for it: grab reversals steal the hold, move reversals turn his move back on him, and strike reversals block and fire back. Finishers and signatures can't be reversed. Holding both is a guard, and heavy strikes break it.
  • Grapples. Tap A for quick, hold A for heavy. Then hold a direction and press A, X or B. The move list shows on screen while you hold him, and he can mash to break free.
  • Whips. Y (or RT) in a grapple whips him. Left or right sends him into the ropes for a clothesline, big boot, powerslam or back body drop on the way back. Up or down sends him into a corner for a running corner splash.
  • Strikes. Tap X for punch, punch, kick. Hold X for a haymaker, big boot (toward), uppercut (up) or leg sweep (down). Y is a low kick that trips runners.
  • Ground and air. Downed opponent: tap X to stomp, hold X to elbow drop, tap A to pin, hold A to pick him up. On the top rope, tap X to splash or hold X for a moonsault.
